Roderick Willis TKO5 Charles Spear

By Jake Donovan, from the ringside judge's chair

This year's main event was a far cry from the NABF Cruiserweight title fight Ringside hosted last year. Willis controlled throughout, scoring knockdowns in each of the five rounds before referee Freddie Boges mercifully brough a halt to the one-sided massacre. Despite dominating the entire fight, Dallas (TX)-based Willis, 240, showed very little passion considering he is an undfeated heavyweight who was fighting in front of a room full of celebrities and millionaires. Tonight it was enough, as the inexperienced and out-of-shape Spear, 259, Austin, TX, was in way over his head. All three judges (Gerald Deming, Fightnews.com's David L. Hudson Jr. and yours truly) all had the bout scored 40-32 at the time of the stoppage, 2:54 into the 5th round. Willis is now 10-0-1 (6KO), though announced before the fight as 11-0-1 (6KO). Spear dips below .500 (4-5, 4KO) in what was his first fight in nearly three years. He has now been stopped in each of his past four contests.
