"A MESSAGE From DARKHORSE"
By Sean Reed
In
true "dark horse" fashion, Dominic Jenkins scored
a devastating 2nd round KO over highly touted Victor Bisbal
in Las Vegas, Nv. As part of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Zab
Judah undercard, the bout was intended to be a showcase for
the undefeated Bisbal (now 5-1, 4 KO's) who, like Mayweather,
is promoted by Bob Arum and Top Rank. The Puerto Rican Bisbal
is managed by Miguel Cotto's uncle, Evangelista.
Jenkins (now 7-5-1, with a very misleading 2 KO's) clearly
never got the message; that he was chosen to make Bisbal look
good in front of a major fight crowd. In fact, Jenkins told
his manager/trainer, Al Smith, that he would end the fight
early, since Dominic was recovering from a case of the flu,
not wanting to test his stamina this particular evening.
A wise man once said, "It ain't bragging, if you back
it up.", and Jenkins made good on his pre-fight boast,
stopping Bisbal at 1:31 seconds of round 2. After getting
dropped hard, by a brutal left hook, Bisbal valiantly tried
to beat the 10 count, but the unsteady nature of his legs
made the stoppage academic. Even former heavyweight champion,
Lennox Lewis, offered his compliments on the savagery of the
fight ending shot.
In less than 15 fights, Dominic Jenkins has fought the likes
of Malcom Tann, Chris Arreola , Taurus Sykes and Alvin Manley.
He regularly works out with long time heavyweight contender,
Kirk Johnson, and the undefeated "Big" Rod Willis.
An impressive, show stealing KO win, over a well-hyped opponent
couldn't have come at a better time. Next!
